Hartford, 4th of July 2009

Sometime in 2009, H21 will be mostly rented. The American Airlines Building and Sage Allen projects will be finished and alive, as will the Metropolitan condos.

These new permanent downtown residents should be enough to fuel some meaningful retail in the area. Bliss Market will be open.

The Science Center will be drawing crowds. Front Street and the Atheneum makeover of the Times Building should be approaching completion. The Park Street Gateway should be well underway. The Colt project -- even with stumbles

It is true that Hartford in July, 2009 will be much differant. There will be many new projects that have recently opened with many new residents living in the city - changing the economic, racial and social makeup of the city. In 2009 though maybe we can start working on the quality of life in this city. Working to reduce crime and improve the school system to make a city where new residents who live in a penthouse at Hartford 21 experience the same safety as a family in the north end.

I'm hoping the business climate by then will be so strong that companies will be once again looking to build towers.
