The Pinnacle at Jackson Place

It would appear that the Pinnacle at Jackson Place ought to have its own thread. Construction has begun on the office tower. A new development just announced for the project is the addition of retail space on the first floor of the existing garage. This should be completed in tandem with the office building in 2009.

A bit of a row has begun over the approval of incentives for developers of new properties in downtown Jackson. Leland Speed and the Parkway Properties group would appear to benefit from these incentives, which have been designed to attract development to the downtown area. Whether or not Speed's group needs these incentives is quite beside the point. I really don't have much of a problem with the whole idea. It's certain that Jackson isn't in the best financial position to be doling out goodies to developers, but if they don't offer incentives, the inexorable pull of the suburbs may continue to drain the downtown of the life it so richly deserves.

Construction Cam

Parkway Properties has set up a web cam to view the construction progress. You can also see the garage and even the convention center (which also has its on cam, see Convention Center thread)

Construction Moving Along....

Construction is moving ahead on schedule for the Pinnacle at Jackson Place. The building will only be nine floors, but it will round out an important block in the revival of downtown Jackson. The best news here is that the residential component will still go forward, but it is still in the design phase. I really don't know what to expect, but it will likely not be a high-rise.

Pinnacle Nearly Complete

The Pinnacle at Jackson Place is nearly complete and should open in mid November. While the building is not especially tall, its appearance in downtown Jackson is important as it is the first new office building built there in many years. The building is also nearly full. The video attached to the article below indicates that the interior finishes are now being applied. I hope the residential component will follow shortly.

Pinnacle Opens

The long-anticipated $50m Pinnacle at Jackson Place opened its doors on Friday evening. This is the first major office building built in downtown Jackson in 20 years. Fortunately, it is also a harbinger of things to come. The residential component is still planned for the Amite Street side of the complex. The building is also almost completely leased, another good sign for its future.

I saw a construction shot of this project on another forum. It's not tall, but it is a modern structure. Does it have street level retail? If not, that will be mitigated by the fact that it is part of a larger development that will have a retail component.

I can't believe it's been 20 years since a major office building was built downtown. This is a great addition to the urban fabric of downtown.

I don't think there's much streetside retail in the Pinnacle itself, but I believe that there are plans for another phase which will include retail shops and apartments. This may have been delayed. Downtown Jackson is really coming along. The King Edward even has windows from the 5th floor up now= and the parking garage too.
