Maybe you guys get all the 1886 earthquake info you need in elementary school but up here in Raleigh a historic fire department page mentioned feeling it in Raleigh...so I got curious, found some good pictures and thought I'd share. Enjoy.

Those pictures are pretty cool. Charleston is due, but I sure hope that next big one never happens. I can't imagine what some of those old structures would look like, especially the ones repaired from the last one...

Thats cool. I've never seen these before. Its interesting to see Charleston with notably fewer and smaller trees.

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad St. Phillip's and St. Michael's survived the quake. It's also interesting to see the streetscape of King between Marion Square and German Lutheran Church as it looked then. The Francis Marion hotel is now at the corner of Calhoun and King, and closer towards the church, a parking structure now stands.
