It' driven by the local business owners. The vision they all share would unite Park Road and its environs in West Hartford with Park Street in the Parkville neighborhood in Hartford. The idea is to create one continuous, similar-looking area to attract entertainment seekers and pedestrian traffic from much of Central Connecticut.

The idea is that people headed, for example, to the Park Road Playhouse in West Hartford, or Real Art Ways in Hartford, will stroll along the street and stop at one of the local restaurants or retailers.

This is great news. Think about what Park Street will be like in a few years. The Spanish American Merchants Association is currently making improvements to the streetscape in the Frog Hollow section of Park Street, and if you link that up with Parkville and West Hartford you will have an entire retail/entertainment corridor.

Parkville is going to have a stop on the New Britain/Hartford rapid bus line so that will tie the neighborhood into downtown/union station mass transit. I hope they go through with the original plan of having a free shuttle bus that would loop around Park Street and downtown.

This project is moving along- they have posted a preliminary site at http://parktopark.org and have planned events during the first week in October that will end with the Park Road Parade on 10/6. If they do bring the shuttle all the way down Park St/Rd, it would be a huge benefit to the local merchants.
