When the DHQ (and hopefully the convention hotel we've all been waiting for) goes up on that lot the density of the southern tip of uptown will be truly amazing.

With DEC, DEC2, Tryon Place, and Legacy Union, Stonewall and Tryon will be the tallest intersection in the state.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Uptown even has an intersection where all 4 corners have noteworthy high rises. Stonewall has truly transformed.

Best case scenario: Duke maybe waits for the bad PR to die down, then attempts to outdo themselves on their previous tower. Part of me doesn’t want the keyhole feature of the current DEC to be obscured from any angle. The other part of me thinks one angle being blocked wouldn’t be too bad. Another 700+ footer would be cool. The lot could certainly support a substantially sized structure. It’ll be exciting to see what happens there. Duke Energy made the purchase. I think it’s safe to except an announcement before the 2020 New Year.

I have a friend who tried to buy this building, and supposedly the owner is asking over $3.5 million.  Sounds like a land banker!

The old Charlotte National Building (?) has been sold as office condominiums.  Someone would have to buy out individual owners.

We still have a few beautiful old buildings around Uptown... I just hope they find use that doesn’t involve getting demolished.

This building looks great, but just because a building is old/"historical" doesn't automatically make it great. The Polk building and ESPECIALLY the Diehl building are worthless piles of crap. I can't comprehend why people on this site want to preserve them. I'm glad they're getting demolished to make way for superior structures. The Diehl building is painted grey cinder blocks. That's the exact same design for jail cells. Level it.

Cool street views complete with narration. Video was made in August, but is still pretty up-to-date. I know Charlotte is booming quickly, but it's current enough.

i've always wanted to see a video like this, i've never been to charlotte - thank you for posting it! now that i have seen it, i'm going to record one as soon as we get a nice saturday morning in nashville.

^Great pics, as usual, KJHBurg. I think I speak for everyone when I say we love your pics and contributions.

Some more drone vids:

This one has great views of all the hideous crap in 3rd Ward that looks like it doesn't belong in a downtown area of any city. So much potential around the Panthers practice field. It's a shame to see some (most) of the stuff that's currently there.
