^^ one of my favorite views.  Took my 86 year old mom and 81 year old aunt through uptown today.  They loved the new buildings my aunt really loved Deloitte tower. Of course the uptown of their youth in the 50s is mostly gone.  But my mom as we were coming down W Trade (Tryon was blocked for a block or two) said " That is where I worked"  She worked at then Wachovia building at 129 West Trade when the building was brand new!  which has largely not changed except the bottom few floors.  I showed them where Belks was, the old Carolina Theater where they had to walk out on Elvis (long story) and my aunt said is Sears still there.  Yes I said but it is abandoned now.  The Tryon canyon was very impressive and as my aunt said she was glad the city was thriving (and yes it is)  The live in Concord and Kannapolis now and rarely go uptown.  My mom spotted the huge Wework sign and said their is KJ's office.  They grew up in rural Mecklenburg county which basically started near Cotswold and their aunts had farms on NC 51 where Touchstone was or thereabout.  My mom still refers to going down Sharon Amity as going the country route even though it is not of course now.  

anyway here is a shot I took driving them into uptown on S Tryon.

I tried to point out where their old Charlotte was or where it was.

Drive by shots and yes it is still amazing to me to look at the skyline from 277 remembering how it look just 5 years ago.

Went into to uptown last night for Halloween and it was alive! So many people in costumes, long lines everywhere! Was nice to see uptown thriving. Also what the heck the snow flakes, I’m all about seeing Christmas stuff this early. I love Christmas.

~100 people in line for Ink and Ivy at 8:45.(Why?) SouthEnd had costumes, not so many and mostly women in Halloween dress. Men out for the oogling, I suppose.

I used to live in the blue condos behind that house 7-8 years back.  I always liked that one in particular and their friendly dog at the time who would run along the fence with me and everyone else that passed by

One large-ish room, main floor, adjoining bath, private rear entry, kitchen privilege, whole house privilege really, prime tenant was a work colleague upstairs with two boys, 10 and 4. 45$/month paid to her. 150$ month was her whole house lease. Owner was a Mr. Yandle. No heat as furnace, installed well after house was built in 1894, was so wasteful and inefficient that paying for fuel was the same as shoveling currency into a fire. It was not a bad winter so fireplace, electric blanket and electric heater in bathroom (no judging, please) did enough. After a year I looked elsewhere. Even my standards were above this level of "living".*

Of some interest: The owners of 301 Kingston about 15 or so years ago undertook a complete renovation. The house has some historic significance, cannot say what. The footprint must be respected so they added a master bedroom upstairs by supporting it by columns. No ground floor footprint change. (what I was told when they toured me through the house at that time)

This is a regional photo taken in Stanly County the 2nd ring of counties from Charlotte Mecklenburg.  But I will throw one of Charlotte so not off topic from Saturday.  The other shots are from Morrow Mtn State Park.   Fields of cotton in Stanly County approx. 35 miles from uptown.   My parents both of them picked cotton and my mom and aunts picked cotton all over south Mecklenburg back in the 1940s.

Good morning, my UP people, don’t you just love our city?! 
 

We don’t have all the super tall’s like Dubai, NYC, ect. But we do have some sweet, super, and tall towers gracing the skyline of our fair QC!

Nice pic, always wanted to visit City Club but not a member.  If we could get rid of at least one of those parking decks along College, it would be huge.  Taking up so much prime space along that street it's crazy.
