West of Chelsea: A Local ArtPrize?

Saw it. Can we all stop getting all googly eyed every time the NY Times mentions Grand Rapids? Especially in a New Jersey blog section of the Times? :)

Here's one: the Onion talks about Grand Rapids:

they filmed it when they played the Intersection 2-3 years ago, they aren't the only ones to film a music video in GR.

Staind- So far away- portions filmed at the Orbit Room

System of a Down- Hypnotize- VAA- ( Portions with it empty, and filled during the concert, also some helicopter shots of DT)

that's all I can remember/ find right now.

Article about the "Sculpture City" in the Baltimore Sun.

Baltimore Sun Article

The author of the piece, Roger Rapoport, is a well-known activist, writer and former editor of the Michigan Daily. As a senior at Michigan in 1968, he published a book entitled "Is the Library Burning?," an examination of the turbulent youth politics of the 1960s. Chicago Tribune talking about the 28th Street Metro Cruise:

~John

I've noticed the Chicago Tribune frequently posts local GR stories on their website - If you google "Grand Rapids" under "News" you'll find several articles listed as from the Tribune.

Like the Metro Cruise story, most of their GR stories are usually just reprints of AP-generated articles. I think they just think of us as within their coverage area.

It's really pretty amazing when you think about the fact that Grand Rapids has:

9/10 - The Next 100 - A critical dialogue on what shapes 21st century architecture and design, and the ongoing relevance of Frank Lloyd Wright (co-sponsored by Metropolis Magazine and Steelcase)

The Next 100 Symposium

9/14 - 9/15 - Velocity 2009 - Bringing together thinkers from around the country to kick off a movement meant to redefine the new American dream, said Carol Coletta, president of CEOs for Cities, which advocates for urban redevelopment efforts.

CEOs for Cities

9/23 - Oct. 10 - Art Prize - We all know what this is. :)

Art Prize 2009

Pretty amazing line up for the month of September and really should turn peoples heads and make them realize what Grand Rapids is all about.

Apparently that Velocity thing is causing a lot of chuckles/eye-rolling around town (private meeting, yet being marketed aggressively). Why not an open forum? Why should the media cover it, organizers, if it's a closed door meeting?

I thought you knew that it is the way they (the globalists) roll.
