I did some mistakes here and did some misintepretation.

Those numbers represents the ranking out of the entire list of small and large metro that frobes do a survey on.

Sorry for the misleading.

On the othe words, Orlando is very low in culture ranking.

In term of job growth, Ft Lauderdale has the best ranking and Miami is the worst.

In term of crime rate, Ft Lauderdale is would have the highest crime rate.

Here are the describtion of category 1,2,3,4,5,6

1 Ph. Ds per 100,000 residents.

2 Index based on cost of labor, energy, taxes and office space.

3 Index based on cost of housing, utilities, transportation and other expenditures.

4 Crimes per 100,000 residents.

5 Index based on museums, theaters, golf course, sports teams and other activities.

6 Share of Population over age 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher.

* 5-year annualized figures.

Thus, in term of overall rating, Gainesville and Ft Lauderdale ranked higher than the other.

Here is the website.

high numbesrs good? low numbers good?

I'm having trouble figure which is which.

miami wins or gainesville?

Anyone who gives Miami a culture & leisure score the lowest in the state obviously has never spent any time here or is blantantly racist. Or is that the best score?

Still no following...

I guess it would make sense that Gainesville has the most PhDs. There are pretty high up there with culture too, and a lot smaller than Miami.

Anyway, weird ranking. If I were going to rank them myself based on these statistics the only one I would move would be Ft. Lauderdale above Orlando.

Forbes is flawed once again (this after declaring for 2 years in a row Pittsburgh is the Worst place for singles but then Esquire names Pittsburgh the #1 city for Rock-n-Roll and partying)

The population estimates are W-R-O-N-G, I went to college in Orlando the citizens of Orlando number ONLY 150,000 or so. NOT millions, these are either county or multi-county estimates, they are comparing apples and oranges.

Miami city is also quite small, and there is no way the city of Tampa has that many people.

I am no fan of the city vs. city comparison (because Phoenix has around 60% of its Metroplex while Miami and Pittsburgh only control about 25% of thiers, so how could you compare them equally when there is already a 35% land (and people) difference?) I think you should let people know they are comparing the Metroplexes here and NOT the cities. ;)

Damn!! I have seen the race card pulled alot, But that is really stretching it. I don't understand the coralation between culture & liesure and racism.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Jacksonville dowtown is much more prettier then Tampa,Tampa got more higher towers but only two are nice others are so-so on other hand Jax got only one bad tower CSX building, you got to love design of others from BoA,Modis,Wachovia,Suntrust,550,Omni hotel etc...very nice modern, blue and clean designs....with Skyway station driving on 95 Jax looks very futuristic.

where did you get that jacksonville metro population figure?  highest i've seen it is at 1.1 million.  1.3 seems to be a tad inflated.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

1.12 million was the 2000 census figure. I've seen between 1.275 and 1.31 at several places.

Emporis is pretty well trusted for current metro figures and it has it listed at 1.275 since early last year.

http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=101041

Even that is kinda old because the city itself has surpassed 800,000 now.

Emporis needs to update it's building listing too, we have 13 towers of 20 storys and higher not listed that have been proposed or approved.
