Hawaii retail development surges

Retail vacancy is down in Hawaii, average asking rents are up, and a lot of new retail space is coming onto the market, CB Richard Ellis Hawaii reports in its quarterly Market View report on Hawaii retail.

"Hawaii's economy is currently on track for strong and steady growth," CBRE Hawaii said Monday. "Many of the economic concerns from the last couple of years are now longer having a negative effect on our market."

CBRE Senior Research Director Jeffrey Hall said more than 500,000 square feet of new retail space is coming on the market this year:
