Winston From Above

For this thread I wanted to try something a bit different. So with the hassles of asking security teams and being escorted at five buildings I managed to get to the top of the Nissen (actually this was very easy, very nice crew of people working there), Winston Tower, Wachovia Center, the Marriott hotel, and Baptist Hospital (Brenner Childrens Hospital). I'd like to come back and do the same tour at night in the future. Hope you enjoy!

Winston has what I think is the most distinctive skyline in NC. You can actually see that the city was large enough in its early inception that the downtown area reflects that. Art deco, mordern and post modern in the same skyline...kudos to Winston and I hope there is no demo team waitning to level some of those older midrises and warehouses in the downtown grid area. IMO that gives the city an urban feel something that NC cities lack. Now if the city can focus some of that retail away from the power centers and at least get some downtown then Winston will be complete. I have always loved the skyline even as a kid passing through on my way to the mountanis. Kinda wish Greensboro's skyline was visible from 40. It is not quite the same visual impact that Winston has but still gives folks something to ponder on there way to the 40/85 split. Anyways great pics and I hope to see some cranes in those shot soon.
