GOLF.com reporting that the Cliffs have contracted with Tiger Woods to develop a course outside Asheville. Article This could bring a lot of economic development with it. Sounds exciting.

Hooray, upscale sprawl with a brand name! Even better than just plain upscale sprawl! My bowels quiver with delight at the very thought of it.

Sounds exciting if you're moving to Asheville and have $400K+ to spend on a house and want to live in a gated community on what was, until now, agricultural or forest land. That's what "The Cliffs" builds. Sounds like branding, not like sustainable development.

Whoops, you're right! From their website:

Three exclusive home collections are now available at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove: The Meadow, with Enclave residences (from $1.3 Million) and Estate homes (from $2.3 Million), the Millstream Collection, available in one-, two- or three-story designs (from $1.7 Million), and the Village Townhomes, located at the heart of the Club Village.

What's a few million here and there? Anyway, you are probably right that the Cliffs does a better job than average at laying out subdivisions. Some large trees are saved. Hills are not leveled. And we know the developers are sincere, because they say on their website that

An article from the Greenville News this morning regarding the Cliffs at High Carolina. Tiger was in Travelers Rest, South Carolina at the HQ for the Cliffs Communities for a press conference announcing this course yesterday.
