Rather ominous,  the metros  in scope by that path are pretty obvious, with little escape by major population centers in Florida in particular.  Makes one wonder at the extreme growth in places in this country, and how that might change.  Still though, I keep returning to the thought that at a macro level, this has to be a net positive for the economy, excepting the human element of the equation.

Just read this story about the 25 cranes in Miami hope they are right. https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2017/09/08/operator-of-12-construction-cranes-in-miami-dade.html?ana=e_ae_set1&s=article_du&ed=2017-09-08&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1504902012&j=78799531   I view the Miami skyline as one of the top in the world due the buildings against the Biscayne Bay.

So much for No cranes will fall now 2 cranes have fallen in Miami including one that collapsed on the building being built https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2017/09/10/crane-collapses-at-related-group-condo-project.html?ana=e_sflo_bn&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1505079035&j=78805441  NEXT time they need to be lowered this is completely avoidable.

No crane on this 85 story tower under construction in Miami but  6 foot glass panels fell http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/09/10/glass-panels-plummet-from-85-story-miami-building-after-irma-hits.html  But it looks like 2 cranes fell but the rest stayed up but not too many ways in a huge project like that to secure everything.

Here are the airport (KCLT) weather station reports for yesterday and last night:

https://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KCLT/2017/9/11/DailyHistory.html?req_city=&req_state=&req_statename=&reqdb.zip=&reqdb.magic=&reqdb.wmo=&MR=1

https://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KCLT/2017/9/12/DailyHistory.html?req_city=&req_state=&req_statename=&reqdb.zip=&reqdb.magic=&reqdb.wmo=

Highest wind 29mph with highest gust of 45mph.  Looks like about 1.25 inches of rain.

High temp yesterday was 63, which appears to be the lowest Septermber high temp in (at least) the last 15 years.

Duke currently showing about 9K out in Meck.  33K in Greeneville SC and 26K in Anderson SC.  As always, that's customers, not people.

The Florida map is ugly.  51.6K customers (out of 54.2K) without power in Highlands county.  That's nearly everybody.  416K/541K out in Pinellas (Tampa/StPete).  And so on.

So the total of South Florida crane failures is 3, 2 in Miami and 1 in Ft Lauderdale and none of these areas had 145 mph winds so it begs the question why and what can be done? https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2017/09/13/metromover-closed-because-of-hurricane-damaged.html?ana=e_sflo_bn&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1505339673&j=78818371

This is an interesting story about Houston and Hurricane Harvey flooding. Where many in the country said sprawling Houston caused or contributed to this locals say not so fast.  If Charlotte got half the rain Houston had in short order like 25 inches our city would flood in places where it never does.  https://www.bisnow.com/houston/news/economy/houston-facing-storm-of-criticism-for-land-use-policies-leading-up-to-harvey-79412  Just interesting.  Tropical storm Jerry saw the worst flooding I have seen in Charlotte and I think that was in the late 1990s. Anybody remember that when the train engine fell into a raging Sugar Creek?

It was in 1995. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Jerry_(1995)

Not in Charlotte (just freezing cold here) but here are some shots from Hilton Head first 2 and one from Charleston suburb of Mt Pleasant.  This should really kill the mosquitoes this  year!  biggest snow in Hilton Head since 1990 and may end up being biggest ever in Charleston

This is the start of my third full summer in North Carolina (my first full one in Charlotte) after previously living in Appalachia and the Midwest.

I still can't get used to the summers here and I'm not sure I ever will, but this one so far has been particularly humid and warm for this early in the season. Hopefully it's not a harbinger of a terrible July-August.

Born and raised in western NC and can tell you summer is my least favorite season.  The heat and humidity can make any outdoor activity intolerable (in my opinion).   The humidity has been especially high lately because of tropical activity, but it doesn't get much better until autumn.    This is cold beer weather!

That's interesting, esp. since The Weather Channel's website doesn't seem to agree with that but I know data can vary or be reinterpreted.

Being in Gaston co.  and thus a bit closer to the foothills I worry less about lowland/flood plain water than some urban areas of Mecklenburg, but then again our creek ravines can be horrible floods that much easier, esp. in the north and west.
