Jackson-Evers International Airport Poised for Expansion

A possible FEMA staging area and the chance of a direct cargo flight to China are two very bright chances for Jackson's airport to grow. Continental Airlines will be adding a direct flight to Newark next month with a 50 passenger aircraft. While this is not a large plane, the presence of direct service to the New York area is essential for the growth of the airport. Senators Cochran and Lott are hard at work to land a FEMA staging area at the airport, a possible $30m expansion which would also bring more business to the area. Overall, the passenger figures are down from last year, but the influx of Katrina related traffic accounts for this.
