Charlotte is safe now

I can remember in the late 1960 and early 1970 when it was highly recommended for federal government employees to not walk around downtown due to the huge crime problem. I can remember when I was around 10 and a man was lying on the side of the curb after a fight and the person he was fighting pulling out his gun and shooting him in the head.

My granddad used to live in the old 4th ward. In the early 1970s, I was driving my new to the city wife around town to show her where he used to live. She had just moved to Charlotte from Finland. We were threatened and called white motherf...... for simply being there. Anyway, Charlotte has improved a lot since then.

Charlotte was far from a safe city before the rebuilding took place. Nevertheless, there were movie theaters, shopping places, restaurants and lots of fun places for teenagers to meet girls.
