Yea, check out the outside of the door area tomorrow and you will probably find some empty wine bottles. I just got back from five weeks overseas. Before I left, I peeped inside the perimeter fense and saw a pickup truck and a table with chairs outside the entrance and no activity. Looks like that is the new status quo. I do believe that I saw a Dempsey dumpster too. I think the organization deserves an audit.

Not if they knew there cost overruns and they knew there would be redesign and/or scope change depending on funding.

Nah, they'll have to go through the permitting process like any other developer at this point.

I thought the city gave the organization the theater for $1. so that the theater could be revamped, etc. That was about three years ago. How has this project been allowed to drag its feet and now not have the permits required. I know that they didn't[have to start until this past Spring or Summer, but they had already dragged their feet until then. It seems like a huge mistake selling this place for $1 when the city could have made millions and probably have had a great place by now through someone else.

Not to defend these guys, because I would have rather seen it sold to an entertainment company instead of a non profit, but this is an incredibly complex project. Not only are they saving a century old theatre, but they are building a base for a 28 floor hotel. Every single part of this project takes a ton of time, and because of the groups status as a non profit foundation they had to raise enough money to pull the trigger on this project. They couldn't just spend their own money, I'm pretty sure that's illegal for some reason

I still keep coming back to this one. Living in Uptown for years I would hear about the Carolina Theater being restored. We even went on a tour and donated to the foundation.

I predict that 10 Tryon will start construction shortly after.   With Lennar's Market 42 coming shortly after... this area is primed for greatness!

What makes this building beautiful is all the shades of blue glass that almost look like a “stained glass” (not really but I don’t know how to describe it).

 

Really hope all those shades of blue stay and it’s not value engineered to be mostly one sheet of blue
