Today and I did not see anyone working on the site but did see one truck there.  I call this one Charlotte slowly rising.  However this is a complicated project on a tiny lot.  However to me this is one of the biggest most important projects in Charlotte in terms of the theater and accompanying high rise hotel.

They found a lot more dry cleaning chemicals than expected, but that was what delayed the piles going in. Should be fairly smooth sailing from now on.

Will this go vertical/crane installation before the hotel at Novel Station sees anymore action? These two hotels have definatley been a marathon race and not a sprint, however, I have a weird feeling the hotel on Stonewall ran into a hiccup. Just seems like it's been too quiet for too long.

The leaking water from this site has ceased since the Water Department dug a hole in Tryon and did something.  In any event, activity has restarted in earnest on this site and I expect to see steel rising before too long.

Does anyone have any news on what's going on with the theater restoration?  That's what I'm most concerned about.

Wow! Had to dig to page 3 to find this thread.

Drove by this morning on my way to work (couldn't snap a photo), but the site was active with multiple workers - and they were digging with an excavator and even had a bulldozer squeezed onto the site. Looks like they've managed to excavate 10-15 feet down in the back right (south) corner of the lot. Cannot wait for this thing to start going vertical.

They drove all those micro piles in first, only to excavate the dirt out around them?

I’m no engineer but I’m trying to understand that. Wouldn’t it be far easier to dig down/out whatever you need first and then drive the piles?

My guess is they couldn't get the pile driving machines to the lowered level.  Very small site.  Also, a guy on site indicated that steel will be rising beginning of July.

a hole has been dug here now I saw it when I walked by.  I am not sure what is going on here but workers were present today.

Also - the second photo really puts the footprint size into perspective. You see the blocked off fencing area that goes into the street and it makes the tower footprint seem larger - But this thing is going to be flush against the sidewalks around it. 420' and narrow!
