I'm imagining when it's completed, and that lobby is lit up at night, and from the street you see through the glass the facade of the old theater.

Per @CLT Development the Intercontinental Hotel is BACK ON TRACK with a 100 year air rights lease signed recently.

Nope that was a side comment and I saw that comment.  It is a 99 air rights lease that was signed not a 100 year lease.  Why again would they pay for the crane rental if the project is abandoned?  Hotels are starting to come back even heard of a new one proposed in Southend along S Tryon.

The project was never "dead", or "indefinitely on-hold", just delayed as deal flow and financing re-adjusted in response to COVID.  CLT Development's news about the Hotel is accurate.

By “indefinitely” delayed…means there hasn’t been an official announcement of when the project would start : ) I guess. Doesn’t mean background work doesn’t continue.

theres no reason to move quickly, the inside still needs a ton of work, and those glass panels are huge, expensive and custom

Strange goings on today!  A telescope crane has arrived and it is extremely long.  There is a guy standing on the weighted end of the tower crane looking down, unknown as to what for.  Perhaps finally some movement here????

It will be interesting to see if they remove the tower crane. That will say a lot... but I am not sure what about. I think the crane actually needs to be removed to start the tower.

The Tower Crane is coming down from the Carolina Theatre complex.  Looks like Cleveland Construction is done with building the lobby.  None of the guys I talked with knew of plans to go forward with the Intercontinental, but they are not the builder of that.

no I was told it would stay in the shaft and grow with the tower and then be removed piece by piece upwards. They must have found a new place for the crane.

With the potential of both sides of 6th street being under construction at the same time, is it possible that 6th will be blocked for construction activity between College and Tryon?

^^^ That actually could explain what is going on.  They might need to replace the Hammerhead crane with a Luffing crane to keep the jib from getting in the way with the crane(s) for the library site.
