Super Bowl Winner '08?

I wouldn't call coming back from behind in the final minutes of a game "ordinary." The Ravens had every chance to put the proverbial nail in the coffin in the fourth quarter, but they committed stupid penalties and had poorly-timed time-outs. Great teams not only blow out their opponents - they win close games on the road against a skilled running backs and inspired defenses. Baltimore is much better than their record suggests, there's no doubt about that. But last night they blew it when the game was on the line.

I would imagine that last night's game will carry over for a very long time for the Ravens. It wasn't just that they blew a late lead, they completely imploded in just about every way. Kyle Boller's last chance at being considered a legit starter went down the drain (just like Feely after his wacky passes the week before), the defense completely lost their focus and cohesion after a dominant effort, and the players were visibly jaded toward the coaches after the time-out call. Games like that can chase away free agents and cost coaches their jobs.

^ It's a fascinating case study in sports psychology. The Ravens played an excellent game for 3 1/2 quarters, and Billick looked like a genius. Then within the course of less than 5 minutes they completely implode and the whole coaching staff looks horrible. That 5 minutes probably changed a lot of careers.
