Science museum in downtown?

Welcome to the forum!

Seems to me at least that there are disparate parts in other museums focused on not just science. There's a children's museum, there's Pink Palace. Neither of these are strictly "science" museums, but each ov these have features that might in theory at last exist in a science museum. Particularly the planetarium at the palace. If we're going to have a science museum, it should be state of the art. But, at the same time, it shouldn't compete or detract from existing institutions. It seems that the best promise for a science museum might be to expand the Pink Palace to house and devote to such a mission, or to have a satellite downtown. But how do you reconcile that with the present planetarium? That would need to be resolved.

Don't get me wrong, I think downtown would be a great location for a cultural attraction, particularly Front Street, create some sort of boulevard of cultural attractions and facilities starting from the Pyramid, to the CC, to the law school. Maybe park a new attraction where Poplar (I think) terminates at the riverfront at the parking lot next to the Mud Island monorail.

Memphis needs to build the downtown around museums and tourist attractions to lure in more tourists and that means more money spent. An Elvis museum should be built downtown somewhere and an American Music Awards Hall of Fame Museum should be a priority for Memphis city officials. It should be Memphis version of the Rock Hall Of Fame i Cleveland which should have been in Memphis to begin with.

The Science Museum would be an ideal attraction that the city should consider. They need something to compete with Graceland to market and promote the city more. Not that I am against Graceland at all. I am a fan. Just that Memphis needs to be known as something more than just Elvis and the blues and Bar B Q.
