Detroit DDA to pay $350K to clear title to Lafayette Building

By Robert Ankeny

Detroit's Downtown Development Authority board members gave each other figurative high-fives around the table last Wednesday when they approved a $350,000 payment to buy clear title to the long-vacant Lafayette Building.

The building, at 144 W. Lafayette at Shelby Street, is the last of city-owned vacant downtown eyesore buildings targeted two years ago either for demolition or reuse, said Walter Watkins, director of the city's Planning and Development Department and Mayor Kilpatrick's development czar.
