Top Ten Foods to Order

Avocado

Recommended Posts

With the continued success of the Restaurant Review and Top Ten Restaurant List, I thought it would be fun to take a look at the best dishes at local restaurants. Lots of these have been mentioned in other threads, but it might be helpful to have an idea about what to order when looking at a new menu.

Here are some of mine (with price estimate) in no particular order:

1) Seared raw tuna with marinated vegetables and mango puree ($10)

My favorites:

The Russian (get 1/2 corned beef 1/2 turkey) with a side of seasoned potatoes at Marie Catribs (awesome coleslaw on the sangwich)

Veggie Hash at the Gaia (tell them to go easy on the cheese)

East Hills panini at Cherry Deli (fattening, but delicious--similar, but better than Mezze's Club Boca)

Brandywine Eggs Benedict or the Omni omlet

Massad at Wolfgangs--just try to finish it

The seared tuna at San Chez is awesome--good call Avocado

Alicha & Tomato Salad at Little Africa--again, props Avocado

Pad Thai at XO is great, despite what others say here (more flavorful than most I've had)

Marado roll from Marado (sweet tempura shrimp, spicy crab, asparagus, avocado...)

For burger lovers, the Station Burger at Wealthy St. Station is awesome (and have a veggie Boca burger if a big slab of meat doesn't sound good)

Wow, you stole a couple from me Rhino! I agree about the pad thai at XO, the marado roll from Marado, and the station burger at the Wealthy Street Station. I'd also add the skirt steak thing from San Chez. I forget what it's called though. There's so many other great things there too.

Favorite dish hands down in the whole city? San Chez's salmon with some sort of pesto. I just went to the website but I couldn't find the dish name.......It's the best salmon I've had in this nation and overseas and the best seafood I've had period. I love the way they prepare it.

Haha...that's awesome. These dishes are also favorites of many friends and acquaintances, so safe to say it's a consensus? You're right--hard to pick one thing at San Chez. To be honest, I've never had anything short of good, and few things short of spectacular.

Actually, I was at the Cherie Inn...could have used your gift certificate. Give that Pad Thai another shot!

The very best, imho, cobb salad you will find anywhere is at The Curragh in downtown Holland. Lettuce is not that gross iceburg crap, but fresh greens, eggs, cucumbers, avacado, grilled chicken hot off the grill, tomotoes . . yum yum yum.

Blackened grill Mahi Mahi from Charleys Crab is a win also.

First post--GREAT idea, here are mine in no particular order and I am certain that I will think of more later...

Root Chips at Rose's with extra 'dips'

The 'old' Russ Andre' (breakfast) at Wolfgangs

Oatmeal with fruit and soy milk at Marie Catribs! (seriously, try it!)

Saucy Shrimp (as an entree) at Bonefish Grill

Triple Chicken (you have to ask for it) at Carrabbas

Temptress at One Trick Pony

Smoked Salmon wrapped Scallops at Leo's

Crab Cakes at The Spinnaker (dinner salad is great with it too)

Pistachio Encrusted Pork Chops at Thousand Oaks

Turtle Sundae at Culvers

Italian Pot Roast and Grilled Meatloaf at Johnny Carinos (can't get any more so) New favorite is the Tilapia (it has jalapenos)

Pot Roast Hash at Bob Evans

Hippie Hash at that diner on 44th/Breton also has great salad with beets

Scandinavian Shuffle at Arnies

Sunday Buffet at Bombay Cuisine

Ahi Tuna sandwich at Bobarinos

Pumpkin martini at the bar in Judsons

I am over my limit already, can we do top 20 er 50?

Avocado,

Old Boys' Brew House in Spring Lake has the best (to me) sweet potato fries.
