$12M project is latest for city's center

Developer Gene Townsend wants Lansing to trade in a patch of pavement for an environmentally friendly building at Cedar and Kalamazoo streets.

Townsend's nearly $12 million Kalamazoo Gateway project, which he is scheduled to formally announce at noon today, would be built atop an 87-space parking lot between Cedar and Larch streets, north of Kalamazoo

...............

The proposed building would rise four stories and include 10 condominiums, 33 apartments, and 13,800 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.

So this would be directly across the street from Wendy's?

The rendering makes me think that it is the Wendy's site.

Yes, directly across the street (north) from Wendy's on the current municipal parking lot at that corner.

They also showed the new entrance to the River Trail that is being constructed at the northwest corner of the Cedar/JKalamazoo intersection, and it looks great. It looks MUCH better than the current tiny concrete strip access on the southside of the Kalamazoo Street Bridge, who's incline is currently very steep.

The street scape improvements on cedar/larch (though poorly designed) have provided a pleasant gateway into downtown. It will be very nice to see a quality building replacing a bland parking lot.
