Five Points Improvement Project

Southron

Recommended Posts

The redevelopment of Five Points as a demonstration area was called for in the Downtown Master Plan as an immediate project, and construction is scheduled to begin this month. Plans call for a roundabout with a 68' central green space, cobblestone or brick pavers on the traffic loop, tree-lined streets and speed humps to slow traffic coming into the circle.

Five points is a gateway to the core of the city, with old storefronts and civic buildings providing a strong base for the creation of a new neighborhood center. As a demonstration initiative, the Five Points Improvement Project will illustrate the city’s commitment to downtown neighborhoods and provide a spur to revitalization of the larger Five Points/Cottage Hill neighborhood.

According to a city website listing, the Five Points roundabout and streetscape improvement project should start in 2009.

Right of way acquisition, the environmental assessment and plans are complete.

I can't wait to see this much-anticipated gateway project get going. It should bring about more redevelopment in the area even with the national economy in the tank.
