What most excites me about this is the extension of Oaklawn Ave. into the heart of Camp North End, and the commensurate extension/upgrading of Sylvania over to Statesville Ave. I really do think this will become the beating heart of a revolutionized north end, and then 24th will connect it to the improved North Tryon, with all of those empty lots and brown land just waiting...

Then imagine the potential if there wasn't a massive railyard sitting between Tryon and the light rail....

...Or if it was possible to access by bike (without risking your life)

Matheson bridge protected bike lane is on the way.

Then Jordan Place intersection renewal has already started which takes you to the XCLT trail and the rail trail (25th light rail access)

Probably 2022 for the bridge I guess but it's coming. If you're a little further south in the N Tryon area 16th has been under construction for some time already and should be finishing up next year but that'll take you to Parkwood.

Camp North End has updated or revealed their master plan that shows several apartment complexes and one building that looks like a midrise office.

and they won an award for the renovation of Gamma Goat building

and their huge single floor office spaces should be attractive to users read this NY Times article  not heard the term groundscaper or sidescrapers before but Camp North End has these!

This is awesome! I've heard of the general plans from many different folks but this finally helps me visualize it all! Any one find any further details other than just this picture? Would like to better understand some of the make up of the multifamily housing.

Looks like Centene can't wait to hire people in Charlotte.  They're going to be opening their tech hub at Camp North End, in the same recently renovated building as Junior Achievement.

From the Cushman Wakefield Office market report just released and this could be Centene and I heard it may be more permanent than just temporary space for their tech hub.

"1701 N Graham St Confidential 37,129 sq ft.  New Deal"

this is the Gamma Goat building.   You can download their report here.

Actually this is not Gama Goat. This is the building just beyond Keswick from Gama Goat.

Looks like it is the building to south of Gama Goat closer to uptown.  However at one time wasn't that all one huge building before they cut through it to make the food vendor area? so technically it was the Gama Goat building when it was one but now it looks like they have 2 names for the building divided by the open area where the food vendors are.

The building was named Gama Goat by ATCO, because thats what was manufactured there, so while yes it was all one building, it wasn't called Gama Goat until after it was split up.

Yes that big news mentioned above was Centene the company building the huge campus in the University area and I have heard this might be for their tech team.

https://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2020/11/10/centene-camp-north-end-office-space.html

not sure if it is temporary space or space they will continue to occupy when their campus is done the first phase is 600K sq ft.

Does anyone know what the recent history is of this area of gridded streets between Lockwood, Tryon Hills, and Graham Heights?

Here's a street-view of the area today...

And here's a street view of the same block at some point in the past.

I went through it yesterday for the first time and was in awe at such a large, lush, green space in the middle of a completely gridded-out street network, in between two neighborhoods. So what's the story?

My bad. Not sure how I wound up in the CLT forum. But that was a great looking building. Old manufacturing building with great brick work. I used to meet my wife in Charlotte while I was doing an internship in Atlanta back in the early 1990s.  My wife was working in Durham. I was doing grad work at Duke.  Have fond memories of that time... and that area.

This is great news! I feel like they could almost do something "semi-permanent" in one of the older buildings not yet scheduled for renovation instead of just doing tents in a parking lot. Either way, looking forward to walking across the street for fresh veggies!
