Five Points in Raleigh

Recommended Posts

Raleigh has got to be at least top 20 cities for Craft Beer! Anyone know where Raleigh ranks or compares?

Glancing at the NC brewers guild map, the Triangle area has 30 breweries and brewpubs, Asheville has 18 and Charlotte has maybe 7 or so.

Site plan filed with the city for renovations at the warehouse that Blackjack Brewing is in.  (SP-032-15).  Phase 1:  adding retail to the 3800 sf building right on the road.  Phase 2: dividing up a part of the warehouse into 2 retail spaces, 1 light manufacturing space, 1 office, and a courtyard area.  Leaves more than 1/2 of the warehouse for future renovation.  Looks like it has the potential to be similar to the Seaboard area as a car-centric pseudo-urban warehouse conversion to retail center.

When light rail was being considered, the route went along the tracks here and had a station at the intersection with Whitaker Mill.  With light rail likely out, it seems like a decent route for BRT would be up Capital from downtown and then somehow continue north along Atlantic.  And then this site could become the center of somewhat transit-oriented district.  I think Atlantic in general has a huge potential to be a multi-modal street with protected bike lanes, BRT, and car lanes.  This site plan shows sidewalks added along the west side which is a huge improvement!

Hmmm another thought... the "existing warehouse to remain" space is oddly the perfect size for a Publix and the absurd amount of parking added for phase 2 is the perfect amount of parking for a Publix.  And the number of dumpsters is perfect for a Publix.  :shok:

(I've got no info, just thought if I start the rumor then it will happen.)  Piggly Wiggly would be fine too.  :fun:

Could be a potential warehouse district forming in East Five Points!     http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2017/01/27/grubb-ventures-buys-peden-steel-land-raleigh-nc.html

I'd love to see a connection between Whitaker Mill Rd & Crabtree Blvd.  Especially if the Gateway Plaza redevelopment happens at the flea market.

Speaking of Gateway Plaza renovation... I came across two different proposals, or maybe one includes a future residential phase in the parking lot?

This proposal and the Peden Steel redevelopment plans are very exciting.  The potential for reinvigorating this section of Capital Blvd has always been high and I'm glad to see someone stepping up to the task.  I hope this spurs similar development along this corridor.

The whole neighborhood behind the plaza is zipping up on value too. Even a couple of tear downs too. Like Mordecai, it had a short bohemian phase that i think it is leaving behind soon

4 story, five unit condo building proposed at 2019 Fairview Road.  Looks fancy.  Rooftop patios with fireplaces/chimneys.  SR-105-18 on city's development website.

That'll make 4 of those in a row now. It's replacing a fairly new, set back office building, built to look like a house. I don't remember what was there before (probably an actual house), but I remember that office-house being built in the very late 90's or 2000 or so.
