In discussions on Gerrard Square

Sears closing its venerable store

Home Depot Canada is close to snagging a site for a new store just east of Toronto's downtown core, fulfilling a long-held ambition to serve the city's densely populated centre.

The home-improvement retailer yesterday confirmed discussions with the owners of Gerrard Square, a neighbourhood shopping mall in Toronto's Riverdale area.

The location under discussion is currently occupied by a Sears Canada store. But Sears plans to close the store
