Looks like West Hartford might get a new boutique hotel before Downtown does. Disappointing but not surprising.

Now that Blue Back Square is open for business in West Hartford center, attention among national developers and local town planners has turned to the construction of a high end hotel. A parcel of land adjacent to Whole Foods that runs north to Farmington Avenue is one location being considered for a hotel. The parcel is co-owned by the Newman Family (Williams Ford) and Boston real estate developer Richard Friedman, partners in the development of the Whole Foods. Friedman just completed the Liberty Hotel in Boston, the transformation of the Charles Street jailhouse in the Beacon Hill section of Boston.

A four-story hotel, condominiums, retail space or offices are the leading proposals from would-be buyers for the highly desirable LaSalle Road property that the U.S. Postal Service is selling.

The commercial real estate firm listing the .79-acre parcel has received more than 50 queries from potential buyers from Connecticut and surrounding states. Deadline for bids is Aug. 19.

The new hotel is down to 3 possible finalists I guess.

what is interesting though is that this project looks like it wont be all that big. they are not looking for a 200 room hotel. I mean its likely to be the same sized as the one built in East Hartford a few years back but obviously much nicer.

Also what is interesting is that re reading this thread.... Hartford is on fire right now, and we have not heard too much from West Hartford.

I am guessing they are being strict and controlled in their development approach. not a bad way to do it. really, its smart. this thread is an intersting re read. 2 years later.

This is going to be a very nice boutique type hotel.  Looks pretty unique for something in Greater Hartford and seems to blend in well with the surrounding area. This will definitely be a boost for West Hartford Center. Business travelers will love to stay here when they come to the area.

looks like durt will be dug in a month or so.

Nice pick up for WEHA, and the region honestly.  I feel as though Downtown Hartford and WEHA are not competitors and their individual successes help eachother.

I think that downtown actually needs some hotel rooms and goodwin might provide a simular property there.  the region in general has capacity.  this new property likely doest hurt downtown at all

any how

the plans sound good.  it will have a resturant to serve its guests and the BB2 area, and it will surely help that development out by adding additional foot traffic with minimal car traffic.

rooftop deck with bar and pool.. yes please

Designed to appeal to corporate and leisure travelers, the hotel will have open views through the lobby, and site and landscape designs that aim to create a pedestrian friendly experience funneling patrons to Blue Back.

Other perks planned for the hotel include a restaurant, multi-service spa, fitness center, 2,700-square foot ballroom, 700-square foot boardroom, and a rooftop deck with bar and pool.
