The Georgia Aquarium

they say that the aquarium will anchor a tourist package for atlanta. that'll be interesting because that's something atlanta does not have. if we get the nascar hall of fame, we'll be good to go. more attractions means more tourists, more tourists mean more people moving around the city, thus we will have more bad traffic. oh if you go to atlanta on emporis.com. and go to construction status, they have great pictures. (of 1180 peachtree, they started building the wings.)

New story in today's AJC: Aquarium lands two whale sharks This is very impressive since whale sharks are very rare and few people ever get to see one. Those fish will pretty much guarantee high attendance for the first year. If they live that long, that is...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm glad you mentioned their life expectancy - there have been numerous attempts in the past & most of these creatures have died shortly after captivity. Which makes me wonder if this could potentially be a huge media blunder by having such rare fish die shortly after the innaguration.

I dont think atlanta is competing with chicago, moreso trying to get on the same level with chicago. i mean we may have a better aquarium (no offense) but these types of developements will put it one an international level, which is something that chicago has already accomplished.

Anyone know of any other inland cities that have aquariums? I've been to the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, and they usually are a tourist boondoggle, but they are incredible! I loved it, and this just makes me want to visit Georgia even more.

One of the more interesting aquariums in the South is Ripley's in Myrtle Beach. There is a moving sidewalk that you can ride on or just walk and stand if that is your preference. The sidewalk moves through the tanks in glass tubes so you have giant sharks and other sea like just inches above your head. It's quite fascinating. I highly recommend it.

Is Ripleys Aquarium affiliated to the show Ripley's Believe it or not???????

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yes the show and their museums. Myrtle Beach also has a regular Ripley's museum. It has been there for decades. The Myrtle Beach aquarium is extremely impressive.

View the complete thread here.

They also have 4D movies. Myrtle Beach has one of these as well.
