I can't believe how well the pieces have fallen into place over the last couple years. I will celebrate the day this site is no longer simply a parking lot.

Downtown Parking Secured

The 758-space, 9-acre lot is opening, thanks to the Community Foundation for Muskegon County which recently purchased the former MichCon site on Morris Avenue. The foundation considers the purchase an investment with potential for future residential and commercial development.

The foundation paid Chicago real estate developer Rick Perlman's Zaragon Inc. $1.4 million for a piece of land his company acquired for $1 from the city many years ago as part of a Muskegon Mall expansion plan that never got off the ground. When mall expansion never materialized and the mall eventually closed, Perlman had the lot chained for years.
