Chicago Faces the Future

I found an interesting article about how Chicago's beautification efforts are having a very positive and inviable effect on quality of life, bringing in people, and economic growth in the city.

Chicago Faces the Future

For anybody living in Chicago, has the city's efforts had an effect on your quality of life? Would it be worth it for other cities seeking to revive themselves to follow in Chicago's foot steps?

The effort that the City puts into streetscaping continues to amaze me. Every season, something else. I wonder who pays for it (I know I probably do, but I mean which City agency writes the checks?). It is so well done, so pleasing and visually suprising that it almost seems beyond the capabilities of a governmental agency.

I am including some photos I pulled out of the archives to help show folks what happens here. I will try and take more over the next 12 months to show the variety.

All those trees can get in the way of an architectural photographer...haha

It doesn't stop at the streets. The river and walkways are landscaped as well.

Maybe someone has a photo of the rooftops of some of the green buildings in Chicago
