1. The Bull Street State Hospital property gets sold to the developers planning the massive project and we see ground broken.

2. Construction is well under way for the City Center Project highrise.

3. The first phase of Canalside is completed.

4. The north end zone upper deck expansion at Williams-Brice Stadium is begun and the parking immediately surrounding the stadium is removed and turned into a park-like area.

5. A new home is found for the State Farmers Market so that land may be used by the University.

6. Holder's Assembly at Whaley Street apartment complex is begun.

7. A buyer with deep pockets is found for Richland Mall and a fabulous new redevelopment is begun.

1. Five Points South is approved and construction begins

2. Another section, perhaps all, of the Main St beautification is complete

3. New proposed tower on Main is approved and ground is broken

4. Some action on the Kline Steel site (I said this last year)

5. Ground is broken on the hotel at Lady and Huger

6. Visible progress seen at Vsion Condos

7. Another project / renovation / retail announced for 5 pts. (hopefully along the northern portion of Harden St. across from Food Lion)

8. Horizon II and Discovery II begin construction

9. Canal Front portion of the greenway gets underway

10. New headquarters locates to Columbia

Here are mine (with some appearing on last year's list):

1. Major (F1000 types) tenants come to Innovista.

2. The Palmetto Center has some prospective tenants lined up to fill the space that will be vacant in 2009 when SCANA leaves.

3. CanalFront is begun.

4. Something happens with the Bull Street property.

5. There's an uptick in local tourism.

6. The tower at Main and Gervais breaks ground.

7. A corporate headquarters comes downtown.

8. The second phase of the Main St streetscaping is complete.

9. CenterVista gets most of its office space absorbed.

10. Something happens with the Kline Steel site.

My Turn!

1. Main and Gervais tower begins construction and anounce a seafood restaurant street level that will be along the line of Ruth's

2. Horizon II and Discovery II begin construction

3. The Shoppes at Lady Street come to fruition adding a much needed shopping (hopefully median to high end) destination to downtown. :thumbsup:

4. Wet Willies Opens and brings another surge of night life to the Vista

5. 5 points South begins construction

6. An addition to the Convention Center will be approved that will allow it to be attached to the Colonial Center, adding a 10 story tower for offices and parking (I know its un realistic but dont rain on my parade). :D

7. Bose will buy and renovate the Town Ship Auditorium and make it a highly sought after venue. :shades:

8. Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Beyonce, someone big...will perform in Columbia!

9. The Kline project will breakground

10. Midtown at Forest Acres will become The Galleria at Midtown, (A Simon Mall) and be renovated and made to be the best mall in the State!

11. Google Comes to Blythewood :dontknow:

12. A upward surge in the population!

2. Another tower is annouced

3. Innovista is not cut under a new president

4. A kick butt president

5. Football and baseball constuction starts and compeltes on new time tables

6. Something happens a Kiline

7. All the vista project start

8. Dutch Sqaure mall starts its redevelopment

9. Holders apartments start

10. Five points south and the one proposed on the chinese resturant both start

11. Green whatever porject they are proposing to DIE

12. Main street north and south to start redevlopment

13. Greenville to quick saying its better than columbia and that it will get the states tallest

14. Peace and success in columbia all year round

  7. Innovista recruits 2-3 more companies that are directly related to hydrogen fuel cell technology

  8. Any progress towards the revitalization of Triangle City

  9. Any progress on the infill project at State & Meeting in West Cola

  10. Kline Steel redevelopment project gets underway

Just a quick note, I asked for a big name performer to come to town, and while it did occur before 2008, R-Kelly did put on quite a show. Fire Works, Fire, Confetti, the works...(considering its Columbia). I have to commend the Colonial Center for bringing in the act. Hopfully now 2008 will bring someone even bigger and better that will perform in front of a sell-out crowd.
