Cultural competency is a very interesting topic and probably one that does not get enough attention by both minorities and majorities(is that the term?). These suggestions are very good ones to learn about other cultures but efforts must be made to enroll minorities is the same programs. Part of the problem is that misunderstanding goes both ways and as a result requires participation by both sides. Minorities also must understand that apathy and ignorance does not equal prejudice. When a person of color encounters a white person they have to understand that not everyone has cultural compentence and their reaction may be simple misunderstanding not some underlying prejudice. of course this goes both ways.
