From the December 13th issue, in the War on Drugs article:

"In October 2006, the Police Executive Research Forum released a report declaring that violent crime in the country was 'accelerating at an alarming pace.' Murders were up 27% in Boston over the previous year, 60% in San Antonio and more than 300% in Orlando."

Shocking. Not.

A friend of mine in the Sheriff's Dept. says the surge in violence is from the 50,000 odd some katrina evacuees. Houston, Little Rock, and all the cities that took on a large number of these people are experiencing the same problem.
