The Carolina Thread Trail is proposed to connect 15 counties in North and South Carolina. (Iredell, Catawba, Rowan, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Carbarrus, Stanly, Union and Anson in NC, and Cherokee, York, Chester and Lancaster in SC)

The project is being described as a "green interstate system." The project is led by The Catawba Lands Conservancy and The Trust for Public Land.

The trail is expected to take 10-20 years to construct, with a price tag of 110 to 150 million dollars. Much of the money will come from the private sector and additional moneies from potential government grants.

See the website, check out the "Map" page to see a concept map. Also see the "News" page for additional articles about the project.

THey can't get this project up and running fast enough. To have greenway interconnectivity between all of these communities would be amazing. Giving someone the option of safely riding their bike, joggin, walking, etc. from their home in the suburbs or another county to downtown Charlotte, for example, would be incredible.

Cleveland County, North Carolina (near Charlotte) wants input from potential Carolina Thread Trail users to assist their trail-planning process. They are using Wikiplanning, a web-based community participation tool to gather this input. Please go to www.wikiplanning.org and enter your email address and CCTT as the password to be taken to the page.

You do not need to live in Cleveland County to participate. Consice information on the trail and design issues is also presented at the site. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will be used by planners and designers of the trail and the towns in Cleveland County!
