For renaming files you can use the "Automator" to rename whatever you want. It will actually do just about any boring repetative task like that. I use it to resize my pictures so that I can load them online.

To change the location of a file, just open two windows that show 1) the original file and 2) the destination file; move the original file to the destination file. Voila. No cut/paste needed.
