I thought this was a tract that was on both sides of the light rail, including a smaller portion across from the omni hotel.

This seems to be a smaller tract between 1 wells fargo and 300 south brevard tower. It is across from the convention center so not sure if it future hotel expansion or new hotel across from the side door of the convention center facing MLK

It's subscriber only but the Meck Tines is reporting that the city is currently soliciting bids for the West 4th St extension.

it's a streetscape project, though I can't figure out why. W 4th Ext already has medians, bike lanes, etc. I'm not sure what they're planning to improve.

Same article mentions that work on aligning Frazier Ave to Wesley Heights Way, creating a 4-way intersection on West Trade, is to begin this month.

City Council will be asked tonight to approve a design contract for the Charlotte Convention Center renovation. The initial proposal calls for adding about 34,000 sqft to the existing 330,000 sqft of meeting space. Plus rebuilding the exterior facade and adding a bridge that will connect it to the Westin and under construction Whole Foods/Crescent Stonewall development.

From what I hear there is also a plan behind the scenes to connect this to a pedestrian bridge along the light rail connecting from Carson Blvd to Stonewall Station. Money being ponied up by CCCP, Portman, Crescent, CRVA, and the City.

Thank goodness if this connection to Carson occurs. There was to be a pedestrian element of the light rail over 277 but budget caused it to be eliminated. I have walked the tracks on the rail bridge and I think it could be widened for the weight of pedestrians and light machinery using the current structure beneath.

It will extend the recent road diet on W 4th through Wesley Heights and connect to the dieted portion of Tuckaseegee

did anybody watch the meeting last night?

EDIT: These guys are less reliable than us, they summarize the meeting and do not mention at 277 ped bridge. They do mention a ped bridge over Stonewall for Weston guests.

Just heard from a reliable source who was talking to the contractor working on the Fourth Ward Bread Company project that it is about to be resurrected!

Has Staccato 7 the townhouses on 10th Street next to the Poplar Street Cafe given up?  MLS has pulled all their listings.

Uptown parcel sells to Lennar for $23 million for mixed-use project

Lennar is planning a mixed-use project that will be built in phases, said Jeff Harris, Carolinas division president of LMC, Lennar's multifamily division. The firm is still working on specifics but the first phase, which would tentatively start in the fourth quarter of this year, would include a mid-rise and a high-rise building, Harris said — the mid-rise building would likely be five floors of apartments above ground-floor retail (with 18- to 20-foot ceilings) and the high-rise, expected to be around 30 floors, would also contain apartments and street-level retail. Harris declined specifics on the number of units or amount of retail planned.

Not sure why I thought of this but right now Discovery Place has a pretty small parking ramp sandwiched between it's properties.  Does anyone know if it's possible for some sort of tower to be built on top of the ramp without demolishing the ramp itself?

Asking for a couple of reasons.  1) It's not really an ideal use of space.  2) If something could be built on top of it, the value of that could go a long way to providing funding for other efforts like programming at Discovery Place itself.

There was a discussion when it was built to prepare for potential future construction, but rejected and the pilings are not able to support additional weight.

Talk about being short sighted.  How much would a developer pay for the ability to build on top of that ramp?  $10M at least I would think.  No?  It's a half of a block in a PRIME location.

Do you know why they made that call?  Costs?
