Miscellaneous things seen on the streets uptown.  

1. Starbucks at the base of Home2Suites on Stonewall

2. 3. US Bank branch signage up.   I guess I have no excuse to not to pay my US Bank Harley Davidson Visa card on time.

4.5. Johnston Building still one of my favorites gracing the skyline since 1920s.   Saw the signage for Chopt and Starbucks and I hope that is all the signage they do on this historical building.  It is more than enough just on the windows.

Charlotte is still very safe. The violence is a lifestyle problem except for a few random murders which will happen each year. I'm using random as a figure of speech, not mathematically.

I tend to agree. I was just shooting from the hip with my comment (no pun intended). I have to be in multiple cities for my job every week, and I feel ten times safer in Uptown than a lot of other cities I travel to. Hopefully my perception doesn’t get the best of me, j/k 

Every city has their issues, I believe the QC is still one of the good ones where a guy can go from one place to the next without fear of violence. 

That said, I can’t say the same for many other places, where I truly have my nerves tested when the sun goes down. Especially when I’m in a suit and in a dimly lit parking garage. We’ve all been there. Sketchy seems to fit the word I’m looking for. Charlotte isn’t close to there.

I know this was already posted, but will this Starbucks replace the one up the road? Or are we going the Seattle route with one on each corner? 
 

Say what you want about the company, but they’re very good at preserving the nature of whatever building they choose to occupy, even their new and freestanding locations are well laid out and apportioned but I’m particularly excited for this location as it’s the only uptown one in a “historic” building.

I would bet no this is not a store replacement.  This new Starbucks is only street location between the Square and Duke Energy Center as the one inside Overstreet Mall is not as visible of course. 

Thanks for the photos of the signage up close @nakers2 I was across the street when I saw them.  I hope this is all the signage they are allowed to have on this great historical building. 

Miscellaneous uptown buildings from here and there today.  Found a portrait of the @Urban Cowboy in the Mint today.

2 inside Overstreet Mall and the BofA Plaza one is often open on the weekend now.

does this count the one coming to the Bohemian hotel?  But given 100,000 office workers I guess it is not too out of line though I get my coffee elsewhere 99% of the time.

But lemme tell y’all - Starbucks can never beat the open range and a good pot of cowboy coffee. For those city slickers who don’t know - I prefer my coffee over a fire and brewed in a kettle. “No filter” needed for my grounds, just gravity and time.

Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned but Crescent Stonewall Station traded earlier this week for $372,500 per unit, shattering Uptown records.

And they were purchased by Lennar/LMC, who is leasing-up The Bradham at New Bern Station, and building The Ellis in First Ward.

Anyone have insight on 800 W Morehead St (site between McNinch and Cedar)?  Plans for apartments were withdrawn a couple years ago, but saw some activity on the site this week (fixing/replacing the construction fencing and shrubbery clearing).

The sidewalk on 5th Street (in front of the Plan B building) is now open, and it is glorious. Will post a pic later.

Does anyone know what they are doing at The Local on 5th street?  Looks like they were ripping out large sections of the exterior walls today.  Now that the sidewalk has been widened are they adding outdoor seating?

There is an article in the CBJ highlighting the career of Bob Bertges and his influence in assembling and building the Duke Energy Center and the Cultural Campus.  One line stirred up a memory from that time in the 2005 - 2007 time frame:

Going to uptown also wasn’t seen as a must for The Mint Museum, said former CEO Phil Kline. But the Mint, which in the 2000s had its museum on Randolph Road and the 60,000-square-foot Mint Museum of Craft + Design at what is now the Foundation For The Carolinas, knew it wanted to grow.

One option was to continue expanding at the Randolph Road site. Another was a new facility on North Tryon Street, similar to what the Bechtler family was considering.

Think off how different downtown would look if the Mint and associated buildings had developed along N Tryon in the First Ward!!!

Looks like the Tryon facing retail spot at First Citizens has been taken.  Anyone know what it might be?

Also looks like someone took the Loft and Cellar spot as the For Lease banners and signage have been removed.  Thoughts on this on also?
