Not sure it is any more likely to become office space... most likely will just sit empty for a while. There is plenty of vacant space specifically for offices in that building and nobody seems to be clamoring for it.

There is something called Project Manet filed about a week ago for an urban review meeting with the address attached to this building.  I have no idea what it relates to, but could be about this space....I dunno.

I noticed Sunday 2 things on my uptown walk.  Panera Bread on College has a note on the door that they anticipate reopening sometime

as early as September (though I assume that may get pushed back).   This would be great considering the Ale house next door is now closed.

Also, there seems to be a lot of activity in the Rock Bottom site on N Tryon.  Not sure if anything is happening there

but I hope something open there soon.  Really need all these projects on N. Tryon to get moving and get many more residents in that area.

If you have a good order-ahead system, you're killing it in Uptown right now. I think Chopt had barely opened when Covid hit, and it is basically a money printing machine now.

As far as Rock Bottom space.  Balfour Beatty (contractor) pulled a demolition permit late July to basically gut it.

No indication if this is to prepare the space for a specific new tenant, but more likely make it easier to market by showing a large open space that potential new tenants can imagine.

Admitting total ignorance.  I had to look up 'ghost kitchen' and am now even more confused on how that correlates with a HQ?  So, like meal delivery services for Truist or something, as an example?  Totally in the dark over here.

Bank of America owns that building where Rock Bottom used to be so probably catering kitchen for Bank of America if that is true about the ghost kitchen.

A majority of the corporate dining they do is prepared onsite as they typically build out full kitchens. Same with both Levy accounts they have uptown (Cable box and BofA). In addition I am pretty sure they have a large commercial kitchen located over by their HQ but who knows with them. 

 

Another option could be Elior who I believe has their HQ located uptown.

Going to also mention: the scooter environment in uptown seems to have regressed. It was good for a long time, but recently the number of scooters has seemingly quadrupled and are legitimately taking up too much sidewalk space now, especially around intersections

Was in Bizjournal, August 18th:

This Charlotte hospitality group is expanding its portfolio with a French fast-casual restaurant. Mother Earth Group says its newest venture, Coquette, is targeting a February opening. That 3,300-square-foot restaurant will be located at 400 S. Tryon St. — formerly home to a Bank of America branch. It is neighbors with the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.

“I still believe in uptown,” says Jill Marcus, president of that restaurant group.

Mother Earth is also behind catering company Something Classic, Fern and a soon-to-open uptown venue at the Mint Museum.

Yeah I'm curious what that means.  From my experience studying abroad in France, that would seem to mean a creperie or maybe a boulangerie (bakery/sandwich shop).  Those were basically the the only French places to get something cheap and fast to eat. Ah yes, the very well-known French dish "fried chicken." Practically the national dish of France. Everyone knows fried chicken is from France.

Hello, all! Does anyone know what’s going on with Thomas Polk Park at the Trade and Tryon intersection? For months, maybe even almost a year, the fountains have been turned off, it’s been full of trash, and it’s been full of people sleeping (or engaged in other inappropriate-for-public activities). It’s definitely not worthy of our city’s primary crossroads in its current state.

This is a great looking apartment complex for 4th Ward by a developer really trying to make it blend it and saving historical facades too.  Saw this rendering at the last UP meetup.
