This was mentioned here or on another thread (I really didn't feel like digging to find it), but Noble Investment is looking at building a 9 story Homewood Suites hotel at West Trade and Church Street in uptown: http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/real_estate/2013/10/noble-exploring-new-nine-story-hotel.html

EDIT: Changed to Church Street per Dmann. Typing faster than I'm thinking..

Actually Church Street, West Trade does not cross College Street.

This is a rare case of Uptown building project that I would rather the lot/park.   A 9 story Homewood suites?  One block from the main CLT intersection.   Blah.

The Homewood Suites is being built where the Swissotel was supposed to go back in the early nineties.  The current loading dock for Carillon was designed to be covered with a second tower.  In fact, if you look at the side of the Carillon, there's a large glass wall on the first floor just above the loading dock that was designed to be the connecting point between the office building and the hotel.

The Light Factory is officially out at spirit square and looking for a new home in P-M.  I never knew what it was until the article about them suspending operation around a month ago.

Any ideas what would fill that type of space uptown?

There was some talk several years ago about demolishing that building but leaving the old church part intact and moving the library to the corner of 7th and College.  The overall project would be pretty massive incorporating residential, commercial and hotel on 3/4th of the block.  If only........

Honestly, it's lousy space. TLF had some outstanding shows there in the past that virtually no one knew about because it's so hidden.

With Charlotte Talks broadcasting right across the hallway, I wonder if they could build off that and turn it into some sort of sound/recording studio.

Sorta taking a post from the Polk building thread and bringing it up here.

They have some really nice renderings on their site for the coffee house and apparently performance space.   I love what they are planning to do with this!

This was brought up a while ago, but it has gone quiet since

I don't even think it is stucco rather than just painted concrete

The façade is such a dud that hopefully they'd consider improving the look of it.  I also hope they recognize that they are wasting valuable street real estate by having 1/3 of the street façade being a blank concrete wall.  I don't know if that will be possible for retail, but at least some upgrade in materials or art would be helpful.

Well, I like Cutters as-is personally, its one of Uptown's hidden gems imo. Its a cool old school scotch and cigar bar that probably shouldn't have windows, but it is what's inside of that blank-walled corner at Trade & Church. I'm sure they could do a new entrance on the street though rather than having to go in the hotel lobby.

Looking at the New WBTV Tower Cam infuriates me.

I feel like the Beazer land could EASILY Have been redeveloped in this newest multifamily boom. It frustrates me to no end that the city okayed Pipe & Foundry to buy it. SO MAD!!!!!!

Also I wonder if ES Charlotte has heard anything new on his "big announcement"

Isn't Pipe & Foundry just sitting on the land as an investment?  I mean, they have no plans to develop it, correct?

Bet there's all kinds of hazards left over from the Catherine mine. The entrance was somewhere in the middle of it all. Some of the shafts went down over 700ft.

Well there's our Unique attraction. I wonder If something funky/cool could be done with a mine shaft. Probably too bad of a condition to do anything now but still interesting.
