HASTINGS -- After he woke her up to argue Monday night, a 30-year-old man allegedly fired up a chain saw and taunted a woman by swinging it at her abdomen.

When she called a relative, he reportedly grabbed the cell phone, put it on the stove and turned the burners on. Hastings police, alerted by the relative, responded and arrested the suspect on charges of felonious assault, disconnecting an emergency phone call, malicious destruction of property and domestic assault.

The suspect's name was not released. Police said the woman suffered a bite to her arm and was punched in the face. Police recovered the chain saw as well as the melted phone. Police say alcohol appeared to be a factor.
