Shreveport Police under fire (literally)

So what the hell is going on? Tuesday around noonish we have a rookie police officer questioning someone about burglaries and he gets SHOT IN THE FACE and left to die. He didn't die, thank goodness...

Then today we have a police officer getting off work, gets in his own personal vehicle and drives onto I-20 around 4pm, just before the start of rush hour. A fool pulls up alongside him in a Caprice and opens fire on him right in the middle of the interestate.

So what the hell is up? Was today's incident somehow linked to Tuesday's? Was it RANDOM? If it was random then I truly am seeing my worst fear come true... I always wonder when some moron is going to open fire on passing cars for no reason. It's happened in the past, and is one of those things I think about anytime I'm having to drive through Shreveport late in the evenings. No one ever thinks about it happening at 4:00 in the afternoon, though! And on I-20, downtown!?!?!?! WTF! You have to be a total idiot to even try that, and even more of one if you know your victim is a cop... especially after Tuesday's incident. The cops are very militant right now, and I wouldn't blame them if they started shooting known thugs in the streets. Why not? Yeah I know why not... it wasn't a serious question. But honestly I don't think I would blame them if they did.

It's well understood gangsters don't like police. Incidents like this have happened in New Orleans and still go down to this day. This sounds crazy but old-school gangsters frowned upon shooting law enforcement because they know it would get them life with no parole or the death penalty. Plus shooting/killing cops violates the general ethical code that all gangsters are supposed to live by. Today's thugs will open fire on anyone, anywhere and at any time. In New Orleans, gun ownership is mandatory for personal safety. You never know when you'll be shot at or jacked. I wouldn't be surprised if the National Guard came up to Shreveport; then you know those thugs wouldn't dare try the National Guard.

Unfortunately more bad news in today's Times. Now a Bossier City Police officer has been fired upon while making a routine traffic stop. And what city is their suspect from? Anyone? Anyone? Yep, Shreveport. Shreveport had better keep their thugs in check. Bossier has always had an extremely low crime rate and it's been known for decades, it's because Bossier cops don't play around. Bossier was once one of the roughest cities around with its Bossier Strip... miles and miles of bars, motels, illegal casinos, and illegal brothels. That's about the time Bossier City police gained their reputation for being tough and not taking any crap.

Shreveport's thugs think they can hop across the river to Bossier and have their fun, but they better think long and hard about all those bodies currently at the bottom of the Red River wearing concrete shoes. They don't play...

Of course I don't know, but I'd like to think it. I keep remembering a story from a few years ago where a major amount of money was snatched from a cashier's cage inside what was then Casino Magic and the suspects actually got away. The story went on the air that day and I heard about it maybe once more. Never was anything else said about it... whether anyone was captured or anything. Nothing. Story went silent. Made me wonder... ;)

My wife and I were just discussing how many bodies are probably in that river, since the recent news of two different vehicles containing human remains being pulled from the river. These two vehicles were found in the same area, which is only a small spot in the river through Shreveport-Bossier. They were also separate cases, completely unrelated from what is known, and having taken place years apart.

I think Bossier's lower crime has a lot to do with its wealthier demographics (when compared to Shreveport). Stricter police may play a part, but that's difficult to prove.

Certain areas of Shreveport have low crime rates, and I think its due to lower levels of poverty in those areas, not so much that the police do a better job those areas. Crime in a metro of 300K+ is a complex issue, so more than one factor will come into play
