GRAND RAPIDS -- The Floyd Mayweather Foundation announced Thursday a seven-person local board of civic leaders will act as an advisory panel to the foundation on funding initiatives and grants in the Grand Rapids boxer's home region.

Dr. William Cunningham, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Metro Health, is chairman. Vice chair is Lamont Walker of law firm Warner, Norcross and Judd.

Other members are Grand Rapids city manager Kurt Kimball, state representative Robert Dean, Kent County assistant administrator Wayman Britt, psychologist Dr. Theodore Jansma, and Grand Rapids Community Relations Commission member Debra Muller.

A formal announcement of what the foundation has in store will be held next week.

It's funny that some people were just talking about the hope that Mayweather would give back to his hometown (or is this old news?).
