From today's Nashville Post:

Lipscomb University has landed a major permit related to its $15 million The Village II residential hall project. If operational today, the approximately 55,000-square-foot three-story building would be the Green Hills-based university’s second-largest residential hall. In contrast, the seven-story High Rise Residential Hall, which opened in the 1960s, is Lipscomb’s largest residential building at approximately 80,000 square feet.

The Village II will offer 87 units and 174 beds. The permit, which does not list a general contractor, is valued at $7 million.

Nashville-based Tuck Hinton Architects has designed the building. The structure will sit in the northwest quadrant of the campus to the east of the James D. Hughes Center and near The Village, which spans about 48,000 square feet and is Lipscomb’s newest residential hall. At the time it opened in 2008, The Village was the first student housing facility opened on the campus since 1983.

Perhaps that is the architecture of their financial reality! Dreaming big is one thing-paying for the dream is a whole different story.

Maybe, but even the landscaping is drab and dull.  You wouldn't have to spend a lot to liven it up.  And poverty is no excuse for lack of imagination.  It's just banal.

There are actually slums all over the world I'd rather visit or look at than the Lipscomb campus.

It's just bland and looks like the cr@p that was built on colleges 25-30 years ago... small windows, plain masonry, low-angled roofs and aluminum windows and door frames. Looks very dated.

What an ugly building. What's up with these lipscomb designs. Totally different from the architectural masterpieces on the Belmont campus.

I actually like the Lipscomb dormitory. Would be cool if it were 2-3 stories taller.

Yep, back in the good old days when a college degree wouldn't put you into debt for the first twenty years of your post-college life!

They're spending $7 million on this... you'd think you might get something a little more attractive.  But to Neigeville's point above.

I'm surprised you all are being so critical towards LU. The design blends in nicely with the campus and the neighborhood. It's not a cheap design, it's traditional and conservative (which pretty well describes the donors footing the bill). They don't skimp out on the interior either, I can tell you first hand. These facilities are top notch for the price point. The amount of money invested on campus beautification and expansion during the last 10 years is unlike anything the school has ever seen.

Besides the large new dormitory being built at the corner of Belmont Blvd. and Grandview Drive, there is yet another academic building going up at David Lipscomb University (one is already topped-out).  This one is right next to it.  Looking NW from corner of Rosemont Ave. and Mayfair Ave. on the north side of campus:

It does, and indeed they have stuck with the Italianate style with limestone and yellow brick, and with the fancy corbels and cornice work.  The Dominicans wanted something there that will transcend the transientness of trends.

I don't know the answer, but probably yes.   VU left the parking/drive through strip between the new Kissam complex and West End, although with much improved paving and landscaping.

^ Speaking of concrete (in a separate thread), note the use of concrete in this structure even though four stories really doesn't necessitate anything of the sort. Unlike our ubiquitous 2016 four-story apartment complex, Vandy obviously wants this one to last.
