We join Boston, NYC, Chicago, & Philadelphia with Colleges of Medicine in their cities and when I say cities I mean proper not suburb's. You can almost say LA but no.

Wow, exciting news.  What “prominent location” makes the most sense for the medical school building?  Is 150k sq feet comparable to their other large buildings fronting Wedgewood? 

Let the fun speculation begin.

Since HCA is their partner, I wonder if it'll be near an existing HCA facility such as the HCA HQ and Centennial along Charlotte.  Lots of universities have medical schools that aren't located on or near the main campus.  UT's medical school is 400 miles from its main campus, as an extreme example.

Impressive that Belmont is taking that step, for the 3rd med school in Nashville. Dont know if yall know this but Austin just got its 1st med school a few years ago when Michael Dell, billionaire, put up most of the money for the UT school. The city hospital, Brackenridge, had a long relationship with UT various life science and engineering programs, and I took a class at Brackenridge as part of the biomedical engineering block at UT (from Austin's first cardiologist Tom Runge). The city just tore it down and transferred operations to the new Dell-Seton medical center across the street, so UT is not managing the med center, Seton does. The healthcare footprint in Austin has been pretty lightweight and I have always mentioned this on the blogs over the years when ppl are deciding between Austin and Nashville for relocation. I don't know if there are any transplants done there; as of 5 years ago you had to go to San Antonio for a transplant.

So you're saying the school could potentially be located in a 50-story, 750' skyscraper in CBD, right?

Belmont University is moving quickly on the new 11 story Caldwell Hall dorm by landing tree removal permits for the 3.7 acre site at 1229-1305 Caldwell Ave.  Dem Tec will handle the work.

Meharry Medical College is planning a 5 story mixed-use structure on a surface lot at 912 21st Ave. North that will include 125 residential units, 2 classrooms, a fitness center, and outdoor terraces.  There's a possibility of some ground floor retail.  Moody Nolan is the architect and Whiting Turner will be the contractor. Groundbreaking should be early in 2021. A June, 2022 completion is planned.

TSU received a $1M donation from a TSU alumnus to build a basketball practice facility.  Former TSU basketball star Robert Covington, who now plays for the NBA's Houston Rockets announced the donation and facility during a planned event at TSU's Gentry Center on Thursday, November 12th.  It was also streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.  The practice facility will be named the Covington Pavilion and will replace the existing covered outdoor basketball courts located next to the Gentry Center.  The facility will include two basketball courts, locker rooms, offices and meeting rooms.

I snipped a picture (see below) from the announcement showing a rendering of the facility.  The final layout and design is still being developed.  But, this is probably a good indication of the footprint of the facility.  I suspect that the existing covered outdoor facility will be enclosed to create this practice facility.  It's a pretty solid metal skeletal structure that will probably be use to create the indoor facility.  Having this facility will allow both the men's and women's basketball teams at TSU to practice without creating scheduling issues for the Gentry center.  Over the years TSU has turned away opportunities to rent the Gentry Center for special events because of scheduling issues due to TSU basketball games and team practice schedules.

Clearly it's not an elaborate facility with a bunch of bells and whistles.  But it is very much needed and has been on TSU's Athletics Departments projects list for a few years.  It will serve the intended purpose very well.  The gift from Robert Covington is allowing the university to move forward with the plan.  Other plans are in the works for the Gentry Center, Ed Temple Track and other athletic facilities that the new Director of Athletics has spoken about in several virtual town hall meetings with TSU alumni.  I suspect we'll begin to hear about those in 2021 as he begins to develop a funding campaign to improve, enhance and build new facilities.
