More info regarding the Belmont University lot at 1801 12th Ave. South (SW corner of Wedgewood Ave. and 12th Ave. South). The lease was not renewed for Heritage Fuel/Magic Phillips 66 gas station, and a $19,000 demo permit has been applied for Dem Tec to take down the structure and remove the underground gas tanks. No long-term plans announced, but it is a gateway property to the campus at a very busy intersection, so I'm sure something key will be placed there eventually.

Found this pic of the TSU campus as well.  Hard to imagine that at one point John Merritt Blvd. (formerly Centennial Blvd.) once ran through the heart of the TSU campus.  And, that 35th Ave. N. also ran from John Merritt Blvd. up to Albion St.  The two streets (JMB & 35th) intersected where the tall white tower is positioned on the left.  Some of the oldest buildings remaining on the TSU campus are featured in this shot.  They were built between 1927 and 1933.  None of the original buildings built when the school opened in 1912 remain.  Goodwill Manor (not pictured) was originally built in 1914 as the Presidents Home.  But, it was demolished and a complete replication of the original building was built.  While none of the buildings on TSU's campus are old or original enough to be on the National Historic Register, the collection of buildings is listed as an "historic district" on the register.

LOL!!!  Not in the short term.  Over the years there have been discussions about refacing the three dorms that are in that area of the campus.  They were built in 1964, 66 and 69.  Typical non-descript architecture for the time.  Not to  mention inexpensive, which was the goal of the State of Tennessee when they approved funding for each of them.  I was told by a former professor at TSU that the original plan was to build dorms in the style of the buildings pictured in my previous post but with modern elements for the period.  The State chose the least expensive and less impressive design.  TSU attempted to have the third dorm modified but the State wouldn't approve of a new design.

I've seen buildings of that style modernized with a painting scheme. to highlight the lost character in the design and provide additional character.   I would at least like to see TSU consider that as an option if tearing them down and building new dorms in their place is not an option.
