Is it just me, or does this new building have a striking resemblance to the Carmichael Towers Vanderbilt is about to demolish?

T.S.U. is planning on renting out the entire Best Western Hotel (3 stories, 159 rooms) at Brick Church Pike and Trinity Lane for student housing.

Frank Stevenson, associate vice president and dean of students at TSU, told the building commission that the housing crunch is due to an especially high number of freshmen and “an unprecedented surge in requests for housing.” The school is also setting aside on-campus rooms for students who have to be isolated due to COVID-19, further restricting available housing at the school.

According to TSU officials, the hotel recently underwent a $12 million renovation, and hotel staff will be on hand to manage the space. The lease is expected to last for just the fall semester.

The new 700 bed, 6 story tall  Eppse Hall Dorm will be ready by early 2022.

Belmont University will invest $60 million over the next 5 years to expose students across all majors to data science, in a new effort to meet rising demand for tech skills.

Charlie Apilgian, a longtime local leader in tech education has been picked to run the program He
had been at Middle Tennessee State University for 19 years and founded its Data Science Institute. MTSU also now offers a bachelor's or graduate certificate in data science. Similar Belmont degree programs could stem from the work Apigian will be doing in the years ahead.

Much of the $60 million will go toward hiring faculty and staff as well as creating a home for the program, which would occupy one-third to half of a forthcoming building about 125,000 square feet in size.
