Nice pics. It's too bad what happened to Rivertown though. The city bought up much of the land for the casinos, and then they decided not to put the casinos there. So now there are so many abandoned buildings there. One thing I wish they would do is fill in I-375 and restore the original street grid. That is the most useless, pointless freeway! Rivertown would have a much better shot at becoming fully revitalized if it wasn't cut off from downtown.

I was just disussing that with my wife last night.

Sometimes the city dosn't know if it's coming or going.

But Ford has announced plans to raze the area, including those silos, to make way for midrise offices surrounded by townhomes.

And a riverfront park linking into Hart Plaza.

Time will tell if it's just another faded dream.

I hope it's not a dream. Detroit has had a lot of faded dreams though, so you never know.

Th city is a crazy one, I will say that! Demolishing the Statler for a parking lot, demolishing the buildings next to 1001 Woodward for a parking garage, and now demolishing the Grand Trunk Building on Lafayette for a parking garage. Are we moving forwards or backwards? Sometimes I wonder.

I read somewhere a while ago that they want to extend I-375. Is this true?

Yep, they are extending 375 around the Ren Cen "to improve riverfront access". It's really a pointless project. Sometimes I have to wonder if M-DOT really knows what's best...why can't they put the money being used for the design & construction of this pointless freeway extension on Detroit's most pointless freeway towards something better, like a light rail line down Woodward?
