That's not allowed (or won't get approved) but someone here on UP did have a rendering to change the South Blvd on/off ramp to not create a clover leaf but to come out to Morehead instead... (look at the S Caldwell stub going north from Morehead).

That would open up that lot to be "transformative".

That would be an amazing block if the ramp was rerouted. I know it would be a loooong way off, but I can't wait until we start seeing developers have to get really creative to squeeze towers onto awkward parcels. Stuff like the hotel wedged in across from the cable box. Projects like that I find visually appealing.

Misc. South End projects including new apartments along W Tremont at S Tryon, the Lennar New Bern Ave station apartments, new Bainbridge apartments, the new Atherton Mill apartments and retail  and Rail Yard office tower site (nothing vertical...yet).

SouthEnd's newest "midrise" the Carvana tower on South Blvd.   Why this is not along the interstate like every market I have seen this in is beyond me.

^I hate that this is going there and will make sure I never buy a car there. Hopefully Charlotte boycotts and they close so the land can be re-used.

Oh but affected by sewage issue, so we will see if they have to wait for that to be resolved. They will use existing design center parking garage. First of 3 towers planned for the future build out.

I’m super ignorant on plumbing, but will this completely stall the project until it’s resolved? What all can be accomplished up until this point?

Also, is there a name, or at least an unofficial name to refer to this project?

1. Theoretically I think you could find a way to connect built infrastructure retroactively. I doubt it’d be fool proof tho. Things take a while to button up, so 2019 on a construction timeline is pretty soon, so who is to say whether it’d be that much of a delay anyway. Most projects are going to be predicated by the success of other projects anyways.
2. Ram has been notoriously late to the game on projects for over a decade, I don’t think they plan ahead enough to have a unofficial name. Not to mention apartment buildings notoriously don’t do things like name themselves, until much later in the game. Even the developer is likely calling this project by its address at this point.

I hope this is the first of many towers for South End.

Blue Line and South Blvd sit on a ridge.  Sewage travels downhill, lest building pump stations.  Most development has been on the Wilmore western slope.  Development now needs to increase that sewer capacity. Or they need to build instead over on (or pipe over to) the Dilworth eastern slope.
