It seems to be very close to completion.  I had to park in front of it going to Superica a few weeks back.

It’s had a small set back but def not 2020 lol, if you look at their approved plans, you’ll notice the stark diff from what they built lol. That’s the set back. Getting that to code

Longest experience with light rail in Charlotte, adjacent to high income neighborhoods Dilworth and increasing Sedgefield etc, plenty of already successful projects, established neighborhood, amenities like groceries etc.  Developers cluster too when others have seen success makes it easier to get loans on the projects. 

Anyway photo from this morning of the rising SouthEnd skyline and this does not show midrises along South Tryon.

Shake Shack to replace Pikes at the Design Center?  This article in the Business Journal indicates something is afoot yet no one can confirm it.

""Rumors continue to swirl that Shake Shack is headed to South End.  The catch?  Its projected landing spot would displace long-time staple Pike’s Old Fashioned Soda Shop. Pike’s owner Randy Chitwood says he’s heard those rumors himself — though he doesn’t know if they are true.   “They’ve not alluded to bringing something else in — they haven’t told me they want me to stay either,” Chitwood told the Charlotte Business Journal this week.  Pike’s lease is set to expire next summer, but he has an option to extend through 2024. Chitwood expects lease talks to begin later this fall.""

Pikes Place is an iconic restaurant, Shake Shack has literally millions of other opportunities. Most of which are better than the Pikes Place location.

Drove through Brookhill today. It looks like there are now nearly as many boarded up units as occupied ones. I can't imagine the leaseholder will be content with that loss of income for long, surely something is about to happen here.

well the land owner just died, so I'm hoping that helps the process along.

The interwebs sez that the Pikes /  shakeshak rumor will be confirmed tomorrow.

Perhaps Pikes would improve if it moved to a smaller space?

Shake shack I can take or leave. I am still waiting on my Southend Wafflehouse fantasy to come true....

Couldn't agree more, SS is very overrated. Plus I'd rather support local burger joins in SE such as Pikes, Mr. K's, and Zach's (ok not SE but close enough).

I hope SS does not take over Pikes, will be a sad day.

I think Shake Shack makes a good burger, but I don't think they are any better than the dime-a-dozen gourmet burger joints around town like Bang Bang , Big Daddys, or Cowbell (etc). I'd like to see SS uptown somewhere since they do urban locations well, and more importantly I'd like to see Pike's stay put.

Now if the old Greek Isle could move into that space...
