We aren't defending it. Point is, you shouldn't have expected Chick Fil A from prices. This is just not what you order for your first experience from a icon.

Much of the charm(?) of Price is that is is completely unchanged for nearly 60 years. In Charlotte of 1962 a chicken sandwich meant Price, not Chick-Fil-A or Bo. McDonalds was growing but had no chicken. The sandwich Price provides is portable chicken, just as it was then. 

The menu has chicken gizzard dinner or chicken liver dinner. Same as 1962. Where would one go for such a treat today? Counter in 1962 is same as today. Kitchen, same. Cash only, same as today. Only "improvement" is they have a website and it is an antique from 1999 or so and created by a family member I bet.

Price's is a surviving example of the policy of "vertical integration" that famous author Harry Golden mentioned in the 1950's. Blacks and whites would stand together for a bus but sit in different locations. Same for movie tickets and movie seats and so on. Standing at Price's is for everyone. Seats would have required segregation so just go across the street, sit on the railroad berm, watch the city come through his door  and have at your chicken.

Hate to keep this off topic but maybe you should have done a little research before going to Prices, I know because I made the same mistake as you the first time I went there.  My dad owns a BBQ restaurant in Lexington (Lexington BBQ, granddad started the place in 1962) and it really gets under my skin when someone comes in expecting Texas style BBQ, ribs, sweet BBQ sauce, etc. then gets mad when we give them chopped BBQ with vinegar BBQ sauces, they could have avoided this by doing some research.   I'm always more than happy to go back to the pits and get them a fresh cut of meat and explain  our culture and the way we do stuff here in NC, most of the time they leave happy and satisfied.   I hope you give Prices another chance, maybe ask around and see what other people suggest ordering, find a seat outside and enjoy your meal and people watch. 

Back to SouthEnd development.  A request to @KJHburg  It looks like a nice day for pictures would be nice to see some of the stuff going up in SouthEnd.

I wouldn't order it for my 1,000,000th experience. Y'all are letting something that is near and dear to your heart blind you from the fact that it's the most nonsensical food item ever created.

@jtmonk, why on Earth would I research the way their sandwiches are made? Sandwiches are pretty universal... except for Price's.

I'm not pissed or anything. I honestly think it's comical how ridiculous it is. I didn't go in there and demand a refund or anything like that. But y'all are definitely defending something stupid here.

oh no, not defending the sandwich haha. though I bet deconstructing it and having all that deliciously pulled off the bone fried chicken would be awesome on two pieces of bread.

I posted it to my Facebook and it got tons of laugh reacts. It's definitely funny, but only in hindsight. I was annoyed at first (mostly due to the lack of a disclaimer), but I calmed down once I realized I was totally fine with the fried chicken with a side of two buns.

For those of you saying I made a bad first choice, it's true... but keep in mind that you're openly admitting that Price's does in fact HAVE bad choices on their menu.

Anyways, let's get back on topic. For the record, I'm sure it's a fine place to eat. I was saying all of this lightheartedly and it's not to be taken seriously *cough* people who downvoted me because I negatively criticized their precious Price's *cough*

I have had Price's maybe all if three times. It's not something I think about often, but it's really not such a crazy sandwich that it should be deemed inedible. I'm sure there are weirder things out there. I'm not getting in line for those eggs with the birds still in them, but some people like them. It is what it is.

I was similarly underwhelmed by Price's (though I loved the vibe and history).  We should've gone to the gas station on South/East Boulevards...I hear it's the best fried chicken this side of a church basement.

I had the same experience my first time there when moving here. I said "Okay, I get it" and ate the chicken normally. Unpopular opinion, I didn't think it was all the special. I haven't been back since. The shell station down the street has better chicken...

Continuing off topic here but if you want the best fried chicken money can buy, you all should make the trek to Hathaway's in Monroe.  Best... fried... chicken... breasts...ever!!! Also they have killer biscuits, delicious tater  wedges, and awesome coleslaw.  If anyone does decide to make the trek, do not get anything other than the four menu items listed above.  If you go down there, veer off course,  and decide to get something like chicken tenders you will be wasting your time.  Consider yourselves forewarned.

So About those Southend Midrise Projects..

 

BTW my grandmother had the best fried Chicken in the Southeast. Fried that stuff in a cast iron frying pan(which was also used as a weapon on occasion).  Yall don't know real fried chicken, If yall think that Gas station on East Blvd has the best fried Chicken you've ever had.

Nah. Not a self serve concept. Their MO is to provide world record amount of taps wherever they open. Thats their schtick. This is going to have like 350 beers on tap. It will also have an incredible amount of open spaces to hang out in.
